The Luminaries. Very enjoyable, I really like Catton's style. After that one you can get going on The Secret

How are his books, in general? I have Lords of the North on audiobook, but only because Richard reads it.

Not if you like medieval things, it isn't :P I've read some of a Rome one, and it wasn't overly to my taste, style-wise, but I'll give it another go.

I've not read the Mongol series myself, I am the opposite of you it would seem in that I prefer medieval-Renaissance historical fiction. J had told me about the Caesar/Brutus change, and that was what made me wonder if his changes might not annoy me too much :) I might get him this one at some...

How does Iggulden treat the Wars of the Roses, is it any good? My boyfriend is a big fan of his Rome books, and thought the Mongol ones were okay. I can't bring myself to read it as J told me he does take historical liberties that are a bit too much sometimes. I'm a big Edward IV/Richard III...

It's great stuff, and I have learned a lot. My Russian history/culture is not very good, so I imagine there are a lot of references that are lost on me.

Ah, the freedom to read again. Currently working on Bring Up the Bodies by Hilary Mantel, then I might read American Psycho or Glamorama, I have yet to decide.

HHhH by Laurent Binet. Pretty good so far, it's written from the point of view of the author as he tries to write a novel based around the life of Reinhard Heydrich.

Indeed. I can't read for extended periods of time on Kindle/Internet/whatever. It loses its personality.
