From the Juve defenders i’ve seen play this century.

RB - Thuram, Dani Alves(for that one memorable season here)
CB - Chiellini, Barzagli(his few prime years were elite)
CB - Cannavaro, Bonucci(his prime years during the first stint)
LB - Zambrotta, Alex Sandro (for his prime years ~ 2 seasons)

Then if i am to name the overall best CB’s with most recognition from all leagues i’d probably still go for Chiellini, Thuram and Cannavaro, but I’d obviously also add to the mixt Maldini, Nesta, Vidic, S.Ramos, J.Terry, Godin, Carvalho, T.Silva as some of the best CB’s to watch over this last couple of decades.

Ferrara was a much better defender than Bonucci. Even Montero was better than him.

Personally i only caught a couple of years of Ferrara and Montero, and both were rather in decline at the time approaching retirement so i’d be dishonest to name them instead of those that i actually seen in their prime here, also i was rather young at the time and probably didn’t notice or comprehend their greatness as much.

Otherwise historically i completely agree, overall Bonucci was not a better defender than any of them.

These are the big seasons I remember off the top of my head, outside of the JJ players, of course.

1) Nesta in 2000 when Lazio won the Scudetto, he played every match - beast
2) Walter Samuel in 2001 when Roma won the Scudetto, think he scored a bunch of goals too
3) Cannavaro and Thuram in 1999 when Parma won the UEFA Cup
4) Vierchowod in Samp's Scudetto run in 1991
5) Thiago Silva in Milan 2011-2012
6) Baresi, Maldini, Costacurta multiple seasons
7) Sergio Ramos multiple seasons
