Let's not kid ourselves. He could barely walk during his final year with us. I doubt he's gotten fresher at 40.
He was amazing up until 30 or so but his body just couldn't take the toll no more. Not everyone is Cristiano or Modric.
Modric at 41 is in better physical shape than Marchisio was at 30

He couldn't recover from the ACL injury. If anything, stamina was one of his main strengths and due to his technical abilities he could have been playing much longer with us.
