if you rate him on a neutral soccer perspective (completely neutral beyond the player / no sympathy or antipathy):
as you mentioned, the fast vertical pass can only be played, when the specific run is made, or atleast when there is an attempt to run the line. We wonder why we play mostly back to the defenders or sideways, but its lack of attacking movement from our team. Thats why, in my case, i see players like Cambiaso very useful, because he is very good in opening channels/ space and making good movements to disorder the opponent. Of course he makes a lot of errors, but thats because its not a natural thing for him to defend as we do.
Dusan started late to make these runs, but was slow. Chico beside dribbling doesnt see a channel/ does not understand the right movement, thats why i say to sell him cause he is very limited.
Yildiz is still raw, but he is wasted a bit in that wing and to stay there, he needs much more speed.
KM should be the one opening the spaces for those passes, thats why he still played yesterday til the 90 minute because when we got pressed, we hit the ball wide and far to him, but he lacks this physical power to hold up than. Thats why Spalletti asks for a physical striker.
Weston is the best player we have when its about finding spaces and channels, but he is very limited technically and no threat outside the box.
Thats why a Douglas Luiz seems to be very slow on his play, but if you understand the complete picture of the team, its more a sign that there is a lack of skills in terms when it comes to OFF THE BALL skills. Mostly the wingers have to make these runs, Chico doesnt know how to do it, Yildiz is imo not a winger and wasted there. KM is still not in form, and Wes is very limited. Thats why our midfielders actually always seem to be horrible, but its more a lack of option and movement. The irony here is that Koop has very good movement skills, but he somehow completely forgot to play soccer when he has the ball.
Synergy lacks here thats why we will fail and fail again. The playery may be good in some other concepts, but we completely lack a concept at all.

That 'excuse' has been given for a while now for Locatelli. Of course it's been rejected when his name is mentioned . But it's true and now it's being used for Douglas Luiz.

Buuuut that's one point where Kolo Muani is a visible upgrade over Vlahovic and co.

and look at the mentality to some other ppl here who became hardcore Chico/ Weston McKennie and co fans because they ‚run‘ and cover defensively a lot. still we finish outside CL with them and are trash since they start all the time.

Its a point of view how you see soccer and how much you understand soccer. But most ppl in this forum rate ppl only due to Sympathy and hate those who they dont like from day 1.

Feels like both loca and luiz would do better with a third mid next to them. A runner/worker like Sarr would fit, as would a healthy Thuram. But I like how Luiz has played. He looks in shape and also gives them someone to take set pieces, which they somehow didnt have last season.

I also didn’t like at all how he started the first half, but he did gradually grow into the game and then took the reins in midfield for most parts, was impressed by how much ground he covered too, if anything his attitude and willingness to sacrifice is the most improved aspect of his game, but obviously we still need to add at least one more CM that has the qualities to challenge for a starting spot.

I agree he didn’t get enough chances and was largely pushed to the side by Motta while Tudor found him already with a foot out and unmotivated, supposedly struggled physically too that year…

But truth is that in the first season he did eventually get a run of games and a few cameos where he actually cost us by giving away silly PK’s in almost consecutive games which ruined his reputation here completely, maybe those got magnified a bit too much, though as could be seen during his loans last season he didn’t impress there either so something definitely was switched off in him for the past year, which tbh can happen to anyone and is probably subject to many surrounding factors.

This time however he seems to be fully fit again and more determined and motivated than ever before to compete for his spot so hopefully he can keep it up and actually contribute this season.

Not sure much has changed in that regard though, he is still under the same contract here as the previous seasons where he seemed to have semi retired early… but many things did change for him on a personal level since a year ago though, from ending a meme relationship all the way to finally finding a coach that trusts him and is willing to bet on him again.
