My earliest gaming memory is this, my dad's old machine (probably would have been 7 or 8 year old machine). The video doesn't pick up the screeching sound on the rainbow screen very well, it was horrific.

Back in the day you had to wait half an hour to play a game.
The graphics were low, slow, and not user-friendly compared to today's modern consoles.
I still love old consoles, like the ones I had as a kid. They were something else, I would love to go back to the 90s with all the flaws of that time, all I need is to invent a time machine.

I'd love to play Sega Genesis and Nintendo consoles once a while, mostly games such as Mortal Kombat, Batman, Shinobi, Super Mario, Streets of Rage, The Legend of Kage, karateka and some others.

Hoping to go to the quarterly retro gaming market in London next month, haven't been for about a year as it has always seemingly clashed with other things with me, contemplating maybe getting a Sega Saturn, even if the library of games were somewhat limited.

Is it still easy to get hold of old consoles and games, or are they expensive now? Just making me thing of all the stuff I got rid of back in the day...

Or is there a set up or console you would recommend for old games? I'd be happy to just get hold of games that came out on the Master System and Mega Drive, but NES, SNES and C64 would be a bonus. I'm not really bothered with anything newer.

As far as I know, majority old consoles are compatible with the PS2 using a USB drive. There are also a couple of methods that allow to emulate classic games on modern consoles using an emulation engine called "Syrup". A friend of mine pointed me toward consoles that allow me installing third party applications something like developer mode, and I can use programs like RetroArch which enable me simulate old games. Arcade Super Retro Champ and Cartridge Readers, either as a handheld or connected to a TV. It has one slot for Sega carts and one for SNES carts.

Unfortunately the retro gaming market trade has become an expensive hobby since covid, the consoles generally are reasonably priced depending on the condition you find them, it's more the library of games, pre ps1 stuff is getting pricey, even some of the less common N64 games are too.
I remember buying Skies of Arcadia for the Dreamcast pre covid for £50, now you'd be looking at around £100 in a half decent looking case (which for EU Dreamcast is a rarity, those things were as fragile and broke as easily as Milik)
Last time I was looking to get Golden Axe for the mega drive, was already looking at £40+ depending on whether it was complete with the manual/inserts, I'm not sure if it's a Sega thing as generally their library of games were not as extensive as the Nintendo equivalent.

I know of some shops, couple in Croydon that sell retro games, and i think there's a few in London that aren't CEX but I've yet to really check these places out, even if I am looking for a copy of Mystical Ninja staring Goemon on the N64.

I'm looking for a reasonable price to rent a device and try playing classic games on a console. Generally speaking, in my area, these consoles with the required settings/setup and methods are hard to find. Not every store carries them, and they’re usually for sale, at least they’re not available for rent. We're approaching the two week Iranian holiday for Nowruz, so I’m hoping to at least give it a try once and run some old games on a console like a PS or any other console with the compatible method.

Do you run them through an old TV? or do you get an upscaler to run these consoles on newer tv's?

I’ve got an old Sony TV stored away that I sometimes hook up to play on retro consoles. No idea if those consoles would even work on my LG 4K TV or not.
On newer Tv's they wouldnt look good at all which is why people like me have a Upscaler to bring up the resolutions of the old consoles to meet with modern tv specs, some upscalers aren't great or only good on certain consoles, and the better ones aren't cheap, trust me keep that old TV though, those games like time crisis or ones which had a gun only work on those older tv's
