I thought we were getting an exciting young coach with progressive ideas but instead we got a scared young coach who wants to play it safe and therefore uses the same dinosaur tactics that we have been seeing for the last five years.

So far at least anyway.
You really dont see how much more dominating this team has become and has the potential to be?

I switched on to watch CL tonight. It feels weird seeing other teams play. They actually... play.

Watching how we play is like watching Serie B compared to this.
In the last few years watching Celtic and Juventus games back to back it's shocking the difference in quality of the football. The players are obviously less capable as individuals at Celtic but the football is actually enjoyable to watch compared to the stressful mess that Jj plays

- - - Updated - - -

There definitely are improvements over last year but the issue is we've hit several new obstacles and Motta doesn't seem to have any ideas to overcome them. Whether things are going well or poorly we play the exact same way.

That would be fine for a young manager but we weren't being sold the beginning of a project - this was supposed to be the solution. We were to immediately start playing free flowing inventive football with everything clicking, goals coming from across the squad and Vlahovic getting plenty of chances to win games.

Instead we've reverted back into the same drab pish as before. Except it's not the same drab pish it's an entirely new flavour of pish. It's not on the players falling back into bad habits because the style of play actually is different, it's the result which is the same.

All that money and optimism and still the last time we saw any proper rizz from the team was the 10% of the time Di María could be bothered playing

@Vlad

Clearly Juve have a shit plan based on very old methods that doesn't work anymore. Always an Italian coach. Always treat player like shit during transfers and probably without talking to the coach (based on a recent Motta quote) despite offering stupid expensive contracts in the first place. Overspending on mediocres because of terrible scouting while our rivals replace them with no trouble (see Atalanta). Not addressing the squad issues, but happy to dump cash on "Hollywood" signings as if we're a Galactico team (eg, Vlahovic, Chiesa, Luiz, Koopmeiners).

Motta is out of his depth but we've facilitated an environment where he can get away with it. Same for the squad. I also feel that some players need to be prioritised to get their worth. Get an attacking coach to get the most from Vlahovic and the poor bastards that are shackled and could only hit one shot on target against Brugge.

And what happened to going into ritiro? We should've done a few of them by now. Certain unacceptable things have been allowed to become normalised.

Conte has his flaws but he understands the fundamentals about Juventus. Allegri does too but he returned to a shitshow of a club so he couldn't recreate his previous success. It's no easy fix, but my God are me imploding and to stop the rot you need great people involved, starting with the coach and then the upper levels where the likes of Del Piero, Montero, and Chiellini should be involved because they know what Juve is truly about.

Yea the biggest difference I've noticed is that we have more possession but we are still playing far too safe we don't do anything with it.

As other people have said before.

1 win + 1 loss = 3 points

1 draw + 1 draw = 2 points

Well we hired a Brazilian coach, a country where football is played for fun, but he turned out to be more conservative than the Italian one. I think it has more to do with mentality of the club. It starts from the top and trickles down. I have no issue if a coach is building a solid defensive foundation. These kind of performances would be acceptable in my book if we were winning more games. But you cant play that kind of football and win 35% of games. Unacceptable.

For me, ball possession does not equal being more dominating. Ball possession just for the sake of it gets you nowhere, and it shows: We create less, score less & are more vulnerable when we lose the ball.

As for potential, I really don't know. Maybe there is, but I can't shake the feeling that we're on the verge of completely collapsing.

Here's the thing. We've thrown away 8 leads in Serie A this season. So what this tell me is that we are taking the lead on games but fail to close them. If we had closed those 8 games we would have had another 16 points. If you look at the table we are 13 points off Napoli right now. It's just one way of looking at a glass half full and not half empty like many fans are doing right now. Napoli only had 1 game of throwing away a result and that was against Atalanta. Then whats the difference between Napoli and Juventus? If you ask me it's very simple: experience. Napoli has an average first team age of 30. Juventus has an average first team age of 24,7.

not that i 100% agree (motta <<< conte matters too, and it's not just coaching experience, conte was obsessed and driven as a player already) but finally a balanced post

experience is certainly lacking at current jj, with that part i fully agree. when you dominate games and still can't win, that's mostly on experience, not necessarily sheer competence or quality. and we dominated at least 4 games we drew, against lower quality teams

Motta:

"The integration of the new players is going very well. Tomorrow everyone will be available except Bremer, Cabal and Milik."

"I am satisfied with many things, with others less so. Especially of a few too many draws, our idea is always to do a good job during the week to help us achieve victory in the match.""Kolo Muani is available. We signed a player of his level because we think he is suitable for a big team like Juventus."

"The reality is that Napoli is a great team with a good coach and is deservedly in first place. We want to put out a great performance tomorrow to get the victory."

"Not fielding a player is the most difficult thing. Competition is normal in a big team and it helps. We have a lot of games and certainly the competition will raise the level in training and in the game. The most important thing is to make a team grow."

"I expect a different match to the first leg. Playing at home, they will try to play their game and we have to compete with them by knowing when to press and when to attack, with balance."

"Locatelli's character in the locker room is very important. That's why without forcing anything, he became the captain, he earned it with his attitude. Plus on the pitch he can do things that are very important for the team. Often he sacrifices himself for the good of the team, that's what should be asked of a captain."

"We did well to overcome some difficulties we've encountered. We know what it takes to be a team like Juventus. Tomorrow we want to be superior to our opponent in order to get the victory - that is most important."

I hope you're right, because that would mean things can only improve.

Agree. If our defence wasn't so leaky we would have the luxury of focusing solely on the scoring deficiencies rather than trying to fix both at once
???? Not sure about your point here
The best defense is offense.

If you focus on attacking and scoring, you won’t have to worry aboout hanging on for dear life against mighty lecce, empoli, and and Macabi Haifa.

Did we learn nothing from last few years?

35% of wins and he talks about overcoming difficulties. Delusion.

As for Locatelli's character, no wonder this team plays like shit if other players are looking up to him. From Conte, Alex, Buffon to Loca.
