I'd be amazed if Costa turns out anywhere near Cancelo's level.
cancelo was arguably the best fullback in the world at a point during his city tenure so i wouldn't go far as saying that was his ceiling

but would have easily rolled the dice on costa developing than settling for a failed winger turned fullback who was a spare

martim fernandes is more talented and will be the starter but also had some injury issues so costa should have opportunities

I dont understand what they and sporting saw in him, he has potential but didn't think it would be this level. These type of clubs are pretty good at getting it right as well.
Personally I liked him and think he has potential, i liked what he did off the ball going forwards he has the blueprints of a modern fullback imo, I have no doubts porto will make more out of him than we will with the bum we got in return.

I think it’s pretty obvious. He does not have to defend in the Portuguese league. He needs to put in some crosses and run quickly and he’ll be off to the EPL for 45mil

Why all of this effort for such a small amount of plusvalenza? There are far more urgent and essential items for manglement to address. What is the opportunity cost of this transaction?

What message are we sending to new arrivals? Then manglement wonder why squad morale is in the fucking toilet.

The only explanation I have is that he wanted back to Portugal for some reason. It seemed like Tudor rated him.

It can't be for only 2.3m plusvalenza right? ...Right?
Nah just Cumolli being Cumolli, dude signed Stewart Downing based of a fake video shooting at some bins ffs. This shit about being a data guy is BS, he watches Youtube highlights Videos and thinks hmmm yes I'll buy that, must be good after all even if the first 5 minutes of the video doesn't even show the player touching the ball.

Very weird scenario. We bought him, didn't play him for ages, he suddenly found a bit of a niche with Tudor and then he starts getting linked away.

Unless something has gone on behind the scenes I've no idea.
We had a number players like Bentancur، Kulusevski, Dragusin, Frabotta, De Winter, kean and etc who stayed and were given playing time regardless of performance and technical point of view. Players need the time to adapt and establishment of their talent. In the recent years, we have only brought in young players and and driven them out without giving them enough time to see what they can offer and that too for a very small fee.

That's just standard fare for Portuguese clubs though isn't it? The kit man will have a 35m release clause.
Was gonna say. We could slap a €80m clause on Gatti, but that doesn't mean he's gonna turn into prime Sergio Ramos.

I read that it was only a couple of hundred thousand. Not even half a million.
costa's book value was amortized already and that's what is used for the calculation

of course ~2m is still miserable. porto will earn 20m on his sale in a year or two

65 mill clause porto have slapped on him hahahahahaha huijsen 2.0 loading...
Can we not with the ridiculous hyperbole? They have to put a clause on players.

Costa might be good he might not be, I don't even agree with the swap but about 4 months ago everyone thought he was shit. It's not at all comparable to Huijsen.

Think you'll find i wrote nothing but promising things about this lad, and he still have a much higher ceiling than Joao Mario, so please dont paint me with the same brush as "everyone"

You just know someone like Jorge Mendes will flaunt this guy for way more than 20 mill profit

The only thing I can think of is he was an easy sale and maybe Tudor doesn't rate his technical ability on the ball at all. Maybe he wants another Cambiaso type player on the right. Or that is was somehow linked to the deal with made for Chico.

Fantastic, but that isn't what you wrote in the post I quoted, he isn't Huijsen 2.0 at all.
