Sorry about the slowdowns this morning, an automatic backup didn't quite go as planned so had to cancel and reboot the server when I spotted the slowdowns this morning. It does a huge backup of all data the first day of each month then nightly, incremental backups every day, these are then stored securely and remotely.

As for server packages such as PHP, Apache and Redis they are all the latest and stable releases compatible with this forum software.

It's more the case of the forum software starting to show its age as above mentioned server packages continue to be developed so minor changes are introduced and for example some functions in the forum software code could now be depreciated or at least it will log errors in the background to file, causing slowdowns and timeout like you guys mentioned above.

Yes the forum software will be updated at some point but it's a big task. :D

    /Edited for clarity.

/Edit again optimized the PHP settings, should run smoother now.

And that's not actually a joke. The guests/bots fill up the "sessions" table in the database so no more people can connect and then it throws the error above while everything is actually in working order apart from that table being full. I'll see if I can find a fix.

OK as a test I've reduced the online timeout for users and guests, this should keep the sessions table smaller. If someone get a similar error message as posted above please ping me and I'll take a second look at what can be done.

Now this will make it appear that we have less online than we do but it doesn't really matter.

    But...why? What's their goal?

Fuck these LLM training bots. They also don't give a single flying fuck about robots.txt. If you try to rate-limit them, they'll just switch to other IPs all the time. If you try to block them by User Agent string, they'll just switch to a non-bot UA string.

We've had 1.09 million bot hits in the last 24 hours, geez. Almost all AI bots.

Yeah they are next impossible to block it seems, I've tried IP blocking and through robots.txt, they just walk right in. I did try user agent string block, no-no.

Now trying to figure out through Cloudflare how to deal with it. Wish me luck :p
