I think he should obviously have saved the 3rd goal. Getting beaten there is almost absurd for CL level.

2nd goal I'm not convinced about the more I watch it, but he's too flat-footed. Personally I think he should save it because his starting position should be better, that is an easier one to read. It looks very accurate inside the post but questions about reach again.

1st goal, personally, I think it's almost ridiculous to think he should save it, but because he doesn't dive he gets criticised as people generally don't understand goalkeeping or different styles. The problems are simply because Adeyemi has a screen with the central defender, and his shot was hard and accurate right into the corner. A left footer there would typically curl to the other side, and that is what MDG anticipates in his starting position. Once the shot is made all he can really do is a token dive.

Maybe don't just let opposition attackers shoot from around our box several times per game.
1st goal - Defense fault.
2nd goal - Should have saved it but its not an easy one so I can also understand when a GK concede like that
3rd goal - Just look at his positioning - He literally had a few cm to cover on his left so if you close down the left corner you need to do it properly. (sorry about the play buttons)

4th goal - Penalty - Honestly I didnt see a handball, I saw it going from Kelly`s chest although his arms were stretched for some reason. Anyway its not on D.G

The defence is getting too much blame for the first goal. I think it was just a great goal by an explosive player. Every touch perfect and the shot was powerful and accurate.

I'm blaming Di Gregorio for the next two goals. He was beat twice at his near post. The third goal is pathetic.

Penalty is a coin toss so not much to say about it.

We are longshooters dream to play against. We leave too much spaces outside the box to exploit for players with a good shot.

Against Inter and Dortmund there are many examples of how we fail to close this space because we’ve dropped too deep. Push more up or use 3 dedicated midfielders

Winning is always better than losing but I think I’d rather watch juve score 4 goals and draw than watch them score 1 and win aka survive. The games always felt over with Allegri and Motta when the other team took the lead. It doesn’t feel that way anymore, and a lot of it is the coach. Like, throwing Kelly forward to pair with Vlahovic, would Allegri have done that? He may have dropped even further back to prevent a fifth goal instead.

Did you watch it live in the stadium? That match was a defining moment for my generation.
No luckily for me I didn’t lol.

Vividly remember watching it at home in Sydney with my family. I would have been 12 at the time. One of the greatest heartbreaks as a young football fan for me, I’m sure it was the total opposite for you :) Do you remember the crazy pitch invader who tore the net down and had the game stopped for ages? I feel that ruined our momentum and gave Iran the impetus to go on and equalise.

Football was better and different then.

When you concede a goal outside of 16, its always a midfielder's fault

I was 17, and first semester in college. I remember everything as it was yesterday.
Match was early afternoon. I didn’t go to my classes to watch it live but most of my friends didn’t expect a miracle so they didn’t do so. At 2-0 I was just hoping it ends sooner to avoid a bigger humiliation and then the unthinkable happened.
There were numerous documentaries about that match and one theory was that the pitch invader and Iran’s goalie doing pull ups on the crossbar so calmly while net was being repaired changed the game.
If it’s any consolation the scorer of Iran’s second goal turned into a massive cunt later.
